Simsbury Budget Vote Is Friday, How Much Will It Cost You?

Simsbury voters will head to the polls on Friday, May 9, to decide town/school spending for 2025-26 as well as what taxes will be.

SIMSBURY, CT — Friday, May 9, is decision day in Simsbury when it comes to how much tax dollars the town/schools will spend and how much folks will have to pay in taxes later this year.

Simsbury voters will decide the town's 2025-26 municipal/education budgets at a referendum at Simsbury Town Hall, 933 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., with absentee ballots available in the town clerk’s office during regular business hours through Thursday, May 8.

When voters go to the polls, they will decide four separate questions related to all town/school spending. They are:

An $88.82 million Simsbury Board of Education budget, which is $3.04 million larger and 3.57 percent larger than current spending.

• A $29.6 million general government budget, a $739,192 increase or 2.56 percent hike.

• A $9.55 million debt service/capital improvements budget, a $1.5 million increase or 18.71 percent increase.

• $8.09 million to fund the sewer treatment plant, residential property fund and the parks and recreation special revenue fund.

If approved, taxes will increase by 0.76 mills, with the tax rate increasing from 32.26 to 33.02.

For a home assessed at $300,000, the new budget translates into a $228 increase in taxes compared to what was paid a year ago.

The final mill rate will be set by the Simsbury Board of Finance at their meeting May 13.

For those who need an elevator to enter Simsbury Town Hall to vote, they should go through the Simsbury Police Department on the ground level and take the elevator up to the town offices.

Voters who are unable to enter the polling location due to disability, injury, or illness are invited to vote curbside from their vehicles.

For curbside assistance, dial 860-658-3202 between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. on May 9, and park in the marked spaces with the curbside voter sign.

Election staff will check IDs, bring ballots and privacy sleeves to voters, and return voted ballots to be counted.
