Simsbury/Canton/Avon Brace For 'Raising Cane's' Traffic Meltdowns

SIMSBURY/CANTON/AVON, CT — Police are hoping motorists in three area towns won't be "raising Cain" over "Raising Cane's" Tuesday when the national chicken chain opens for business in Simsbury.

The popular, Louisianna-based chain of chicken restaurants opens Tuesday at Simsbury Commons at 546 Bushy Hill Road, Simsbury.

While the eatery is located in Simsbury, police said it will impact traffic on multiple roadways, including Route 44 in Avon, Canton, and Simsbury as well as Route 167 in Avon and Simsbury.

As a result, the Simsbury Police Department issued an alert last Thursday about the upcoming situation, warning motorists in all three towns of increased traffic.

"The increase in traffic is anticipated due to the opening of the new Raising Cane's Restaurant at 546 Bushy Hill Road in Simsbury," wrote the SPD.

"Peak traffic hours may include lunchtime and early evening periods, especially during the first week of its grand opening on Sept. 10, 2024."

Police said the entrance to the plaza is via the entrance at the Stop & Shop supermarket on Bush Hill Road and signs will be posted stating as such.

"Local residents and commuters should consider alternate routes, allow extra travel time, and remain alert for pedestrians and increased traffic near the restaurant," wrote police.

"Law enforcement and traffic control measures may be in place to help manage the flow of vehicles."

The Canton and Avon police departments also issued warnings about the potential traffic meltdowns, reposting the SPD's warning.

When Raising Cane's opened in Enfield last February, traffic around the chicken chain was heavy and lines long.
