Simsbury Crew Competes in the CPSRA Championship Regatta

An Exciting End to the Season

The Connecticut Public School Rowing Association (CPSRA) held its 26th Championship Regatta for public high school crews at Lake Waramaug on Sunday, May 18. Simsbury competed against other Connecticut public high school rowing teams. Their opponents were from Avon, Stonington, Farmington, Glastonbury, Guilford, East Lyme, Lewis S Mills, Lyme Old Lyme, Middletown, and EO Smith.

The rain stayed away, but rowers did have to deal with head and port side winds, which gusted at times. The girl’s 3rd boat came third in their race and earned themselves a bronze medal. The girl's 2nd varsity boat took the second spot in both their first heat and their final race, winning a silver. The girl's 1st varsity boat finished their first heat in first place and came in fifth in the final.

The boy’s novice boat rowed over the finish line in 5th place. The boy’s 3rd boat rowed with determination and claimed 2nd place, along with a silver medal. The boy’s 2nd varsity boat took the 4th spot in their race. The boy’s 1st varsity boat claimed second place in their first heat and came in fifth in their final. Coach, Ann Carabillo, said ‘We are so proud of all the hard work our athletes did throughout the season. It has been an amazing journey of growth and learning.’

The Spring rowing season concluded for Simsbury Crew on Saturday, May 24, at the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association (NEIRA) Championships at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA. The girl’s 1st and 2nd varsity boats both qualified and completed in this regatta.
