Simsbury Man Accused Of Soliciting Sex With Underage Girl: Police

CROMWELL/SIMSBURY, CT — A 63-year-old Simsbury man is accused by Cromwell police of trying to pay a 15-year-old girl for sex.

Cromwell police last week charged Christopher Root, 63, of Simsbury, with enticing a minor and commercial sexual abuse of a minor.

Root is out on $75,000 bond and will next appear in Middletown Superior Court on Oct. 28, police said.

According to the CPD, police received a complaint about the situation.

The CPD said the "girl" was, actually, an adult female posing as a juvenile on the "Whisper" app.

As a result, the Cromwell PD patrol and detective divisions set up surveillance at a local motel and observed the suspect walk in, according to police.

That's when police took Root into custody, police said.
