Simsbury Mourns Unexpected Death Of Beloved Firefighter

SIMSBURY, CT — The Simsbury Volunteer Fire Co. is mourning the death on Thanksgiving of a beloved volunteer firefighter who served his community unselfishly.

The SVFC announced that firefighter Greg Reynolds, 39, died suddenly on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27.

Monday, the department announced a memorial service this week in his honor.

"It is with profound sadness that the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company announces the unexpected passing of Firefighter Greg Reynolds," wrote the department.

"FF Reynolds was an active member of the Main Station. His commitment to protecting our community and the bonds he built within our fire family will never be forgotten. Please keep Greg’s family, friends, and fellow firefighters in your thoughts."

According to his obituary, the University of Connecticut graduate left behind a wife and two children, aged 13 and 11.

The Ryan Family Flower Farm posted on social media that "It is with profound sadness that we have to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of one of our employees, Greg Reynolds. Greg was a longtime resident of Simsbury and aside from working at the farm and for Valley Landscaping part time for several years he was a volunteer fireman in Simsbury. Please keep his family, friends, coworkers and fellow firefighters in your thoughts. There is a lot of sadness and grief."

Calling hours will be on Thursday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home at 880 Hopmeadow St, Simsbury. A Memorial Service will be held at the Simsbury United Methodist Church at 799 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, on Friday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m.
