your shades or curtains closed during the day will help keep your home cooler," wrote the town.

"If you must be outside, stay hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure to the extent possible.

As with every heat wave, town leaders said early mornings and evenings are the best times to be outside.

Should folks need respite from the heat, the Simsbury Public Library, 725 Hopmeadow St., is open during normal business hours: Monday through Thursday (9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.), Friday (9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) and Saturday (9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.).
