Simsbury School Addition 'Ahead Of Schedule'
When the school opened on Aug. 28, teachers were in their new classrooms with most of the work nearly complete.
SIMSBURY, CT — A massive addition to a local elementary school is ahead of schedule, with teachers conducting lessons in their new classrooms when school started last week.
Work at Latimer Lane School in the Weatogue section of Simsbury is not complete just yet, school officials reported, but the job is classified as "nearly complete."
Funding for the project was approved in 2021 and 2023 and it includes a new addition, art room, library/media center, renovated classrooms, and new spaces for the music department, among other improvements.

In addition, renovations will be completed with the main office and the nurse's suite, work that will be completed over the fall.
Once complete, it will mark the end of a long, post-pandemic odyssey for the project.

Voters initially said "yes" to a $36.7 million appropriation for a building expansion project in 2021.
But then the post-pandemic, supply chain/inflation bugaboo bit the town, resulting in the town going back to voters for another $2.26 million in 2023.
Work on the project has been ongoing since December 2022.
