As it currently stands, the combined town/education budget for Simsbury is proposed at $128.45 million, an increase of $5.7 million or 4.65 percent.
This spending plan, according to the budget following selectmen's approval, would increase the town's tax rate from 33.31 to 34.06 — 2.25 percent or 0.75 mills.
This means for a home assessed at $300,000, the new budget would increase their taxes by $225 this year.
Following Tuesday's hearing, the finance board will go over the budget and set it up for a budget referendum in May.
