As Bad As Smoking: Simsbury Program Targets Stress

The Simsbury Public Library on April 23 is hosting an event aimed at helping folks combat a malady some say is as bad as smoking.

SIMSBURY, CT — The local library is offering a free program next week that will help folks combat stress, which, according to some experts, can be as dangerous to health as smoking.

The Simsbury Public Library, 725 Hopmeadow St., will host "Stress and Disease" with Dr. Wendy Hurwitz, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23. The event was rescheduled from an earlier date.

"Up to 90 percent of all visits to doctors’ offices are stress-related, according to Harvard," wrote Hurwitz in a release. " Stress can be considered as much a risk factor for disease as smoking."

Hurwitz's program helps participants learn the difference between good and bad stress, increase awareness of how stress impacts the body, and hear about the emerging pattern matching specific symptoms and diseases with specific stresses.

"Everyone will learn a technique to minimize stress and maximize vitality," wrote Hurwitz.
