Storms Close Several Roadways In Simsbury: UPDATE

A line of heavy rain and thunderstorms plowed through Connecticut Wednesday night, causing many road closures.

SIMSBURY, CT — A nasty line of heavy rain and thunderstorms wreaked havoc on Connecticut late Wednesday night, with Simsbury among the towns impacted by road closures.

According to the state Department of Transportation, Route 309 at Ruthies Lane was closed early Thursday after a tree was toppled onto utility wires.

The closure was first reported at 1:15 a.m. Thursday and it is still "unknown" when it will reopen.

This wasn't the only issue reported in Simsbury after the storms, with the Simsbury Police Department early Thursday morning stating other roads are closed as well due to storm damage.

They include: Hedgehog Road from Westledge to Victoria; Old Farms Road at Smokey Ridge; County Road from Litchfield Road to Munnisunk Drive; the dirt portion of Town Forest Road; and Evans, Birch, and Whitcomb roads closed.

"Use caution. Do not drive around barriers. Do not touch any wires," wrote the SPD. "Utility crews have been notified and we are waiting for their response to safely remove any hazardous wires, trees and poles."
