TONIGHT: Hearing To Look At Regional Traffic Light Overhaul
Residents of Avon, Danbury, East Granby, Farmington, Kent, Middlebury, Simsbury, and Southbury can register for the virtual event Aug. 11.

Residents of several area towns are invited to register for a state Department of Transportation hearing on major traffic light improvements planned in multiple towns.
The virtual hearing is on Monday, August 11, at 6 p.m., and it is regarding traffic signal replacement work in the towns of Avon, Danbury, East Granby, Farmington, Kent, Middlebury, Simsbury, and Southbury.

"The purpose of this meeting is to provide the community with an opportunity to learn about the proposed project and allow an open discussion of any views and comments concerning the proposed improvements," wrote the DOT in an announcement.
The replacement of traffic control signals will modernize aging infrastructure to current standards, maintaining reliable operation and improving safety at various intersections throughout those towns, wrote the DOT.

Construction is expected to start summer of 2027. The estimated cost is $14 million with 100 percent state funds.
The public can submit comments and questions during the two-week public comment period following the meeting.
