Broadway Icon Stephen Sondheim's Mansion Sold In Roxbury
The late composer Stephen Sondheim's nine-acre Roxbury estate is under contract, is scheduled to close in early 2024.
ROXBURY, CT – Stephen Sondheim's nine-acre Roxbury estate is under contract, according to the Klemm Real Estate website. It is scheduled to close in early 2024.
The 11-room, 3,698 square foot home on just over 9 acres was built in 1792, and was on the market for $3,250,000.
Offering "a timeless blend of history, elegance, and modern comfort," with its "dramatic living room with cathedral ceiling," and "wonderful paneled library" the home has been Sondheim's country retreat since he purchased it in 1983.

The famed Broadway composer and lyricist, whose work included "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," "Company," "A Little Night Music," and "A Little Night Music," died in 2021 at age 91.
During his storied career, Sondheim collected eight Tony Awards, eight Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, an Olivier Award, and the Pulitzer Prize. Theaters on both Broadway and in the West End of London have been named in his honor, and he was awarded the Kennedy Center Honor in 1993 and a Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015.
