Construction To Affect 2 Southbury Bridges [UPDATE]
The town has released information on what drivers should expect when construction on two bridges begins this week.

SOUTHBURY, CT — Construction on Flood Bridge Road and Heritage Road Bridge over the Pomperaug River will begin Friday, according to a statement from the town. Previously, the town said the projects would being July 29, then a revised statement said they would begin Friday, July 22.
The project consists of the rehabilitation of both bridges including the bridge decks and repair work to the underside of the structures.
Flood Bridge Road will be closed for the duration of construction whereas Heritage Road will be staged during construction, allowing partial use by motorists.

The project is expected to last three months with an ending date of around Oct. 27, according to the statement.
From August to October 2022, the contractor will close Flood Bridge Road and will implement a detour consisting of Flood Bridge Road, Library Road, South Britain Road and Main Street South. Drivers should follow posted signs for the detour route.

Heritage Road will be staged during construction allowing drivers full and partial use of the bridge during construction. Stage 1 will allow drivers to use the bridge to and from Heritage Village. Stage 2 will restrict drivers to one way into the Village only.
The project includes rehabilitating the existing superstructure of both bridges including a new bituminous concrete surface and expansion joints and repairs to the concrete structure below. This repair work will extend the life of both structures by about 20 years.
