Obituary: Joan Barbara Ford (Gerecht), 89, Of Southbury

SOUTHBURY, CT — Joan Barbara Ford (Gerecht), passed away peacefully on Feb. 21, 2024 in Southbury, at the age of 89. She was born October 10, 1934, in Miami, FL, and was raised by her mother Grace Gerecht Fenner and later her stepfather Carl J. Fenner Jr. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved husband of 42 years, Francis J. Ford Jr., her brother Ronald Gerecht, and her son-in-law David Goss. She is survived by her and Francis’s 3 children: Gary Ford, Darlene Svendberg (Glenn), and Brenda Goss, 4 grandchildren: Wayne Svendberg (Jamie), Kristine Svendberg-Izhak (David), Jessica Cihal (Tyler), and Sara Kovack (Billy), and 3 great-grandchildren: Wyatt Svendberg, Aleks Svendberg, and Jade Kovack.

Joan moved around quite a bit as a child, eventually raising her family in Ridgefield in 1960, and later moving to Southbury in 1978. She is a graduate of Stamford High School, and spent many years working as a bank manager and at PIC design. She was an active member of the Great Hill United Methodist Church of Seymour, and enjoyed gardening, baking, and going to the beach. She was also a huge fan of the UConn Ladies Husky Basketball team. A much loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be greatly missed.

Services will be held at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home on Monday Feb. 26, 2024 from 9:00-11:00 a.m., with a burial following at Long Ridge Union Cemetery in Stamford from noon to 12:30 p.m., concluding with a celebration of life at Brookside Inn in Oxford at 1:30 p.m.
