Obituary: Louis A. DeWan, 91, Of Southbury

Louis will be remembered for his sense of humor, his firm handshakes and warm hugs, his generosity and kindness, and his unwavering faith.

SOUTHBURY, CT — Louis A. DeWan, 91, of Southbury, peacefully passed away surrounded by love on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023. He was the loving husband of Mary Ann (Puopolo) DeWan, with whom he shared over 52 special years. Lou was born in Danbury on Aug. 17, 1932, son of the late Nassif and Sadie (Najjar) DeWan.

Lou attended Danbury schools, and then went on to serve in the US Air Force. He became a machinist and worked at Amphenol before starting his own machine shop, DeWan Manufacturing Company. In his retirement, he kept busy swapping cars as a driver for Colonial Ford, attending his grandchildren's school and sporting events, golfing, and he always enjoyed going for a drive. He was a member of the Lebanon-American Club of Danbury, and of St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church.

Louis will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his firm handshakes and warm hugs, his generosity and kindness, and his unwavering faith.

Louis will be deeply missed by his wife, as well as his daughter Bonnie DeWan, his son Darren DeWan, his granddaughter Azania (Brodeur) Buckley and her husband Stephen, his grandson Jaden Brodeur, his great-granddaughter Blake Buckley, and many nieces and nephews. Louis was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by his brother George E. DeWan.

Calling Hours are from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024 in St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 17 Granville Avenue, Danbury followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.

Interment with military honors will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury
