Obituary: Sandy Snow Cox, 83, Of Southbury

Sandy was active in efforts to resettle refugees and a supporter of music groups, as well as many regional conservation efforts.

SOUTHBURY, CT — Sandy Snow Cox, a resident of Southbury, died Jan. 11, 2024, at Waterbury Hospital, Waterbury. She was 83 years old. Daughter of Edward Vermilye Cox Jr and Virginia Blunt Cox, she was born on Dec. 21, 1940 in the Laying-in-Hospital in New York City and lived in Oyster Bay, L.I. during her early years. She attended East Woods School in Oyster Bay, High Mowing School in Wilton, NH and Garland Junior College in Boston, MA.

A lover of birds, music, folk concerts, cats, and the outdoors, Sandy was a keen kayaker and canoeist, and frequented the regional walking paths and hiking trails. She was active in efforts to resettle refugees and a supporter of music groups, as well as many regional conservation efforts. A gregarious person, she found great joy in connecting people with common interests. Sandy was a sincere and powerful advocate for her independent living community. Over her lifetime, she added members and strength to many organizations.

In 2000, Sandy moved to Woodbury, to be near her parents and then to The Watermark in Southbury, in 2019. She maintained a close connection to her Bulkley family relatives with many visits to the family cabin on Doolittle Lake, Norfolk. She also often visited the Cox family summer house in Nova Scotia.

Sandy is survived by her brother, Edward V. Cox III, MD, and his wife, Carole, who live in London, England; a nephew, Peter Bulkley Cox of Waban, MA and his wife, Kate and their children, Charles and Samantha; and her first cousins, John Cox of Philadelphia, PA, Darrel Jodrey of Bethesda, MD, Basil Cox of Pittsburgh, PA, Duncan Cox of Marblehead, MA, and Sandy’s sister-in-law, Ila Mae Cox of Boxford, MA.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 20, 2024 at The Watermark at 611 East Hill Road, Southbury.
