Roughly 900 Acres of Land in Southbury Could Be Used for Farming
Officials are considering what the land off of Route 172 could be used for.

A large portion of land near the Southbury Training School could be used for farming, the Republican-American reports.
The approximately 900 acres of land is being considered for a concept where small portions of land will be leased to tenant farmers to grow crops. The land has been farmed on and off since since the late 1930s.
First Selectman Ed Edelson told the paper no decisions would be made till the owner Ed Platt had been consulted. At the meeting held last week to discuss possibilities for the land, officials also discussed the possibility to allow those with a casual interest in farming to use the land.

According to the paper, the arrangement with the Southbury Land Trust and the state Department of Agriculture will prevent anything from being built on the land.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy approved the preservation of the land last year after years of efforts put in by preservationists.
