Southbury 2024 Election Results: Winners Revealed In Key Races

SOUTHBURY, CT — Southbury Selectman Jason Buchsbaum thanked his supporters on Facebook shortly before 11:00 p.m. Tuesday for victory in his race to represent the 69th House District. The Republican defeated Democrat Ed Edelson.

Democratic Rep. Jahana Hayes also won reelection to a U.S. House seat representing Connecticut. The Associated Press called that race at 2 a.m. Wednesday. The third-term congresswoman's contest was a rematch with 2022 challenger Republican George Logan.

Republican incumbent State Sen. Eric Berthel declared victory in the 32nd State Senate District race over Jeff Desmarais, the Republican-American and Hearst reported.

Democrat Ellen Fox conceded the race for the 131st State House District to Republican Arnold Jensen on Facebook at 11:45 p.m.

Shortly after the polls closed Tuesday night, vice President Kamala Harris was announced as the winner of Connecticut's seven electoral college votes, defeating former President Donald J. Trump and three other candidates, according to the Associated Press.

Also, U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-CT, won re-election and a third term in Congress, according to projections. He defeated GOP challenger Matthew M. Corey and two other candidates.

Votes are still being counted in other key races, including the U.S. House of Representatives, and the state General Assembly races.

Residents also voted for their local representative in the U.S. Congress, and their local state representative and senators in the General Assembly in Hartford.

No-excuse absentee balloting — allowing voters to vote by absentee ballot under any circumstance — was approved by voters. Lawmakers in Hartford will now have the authority to ratify state law to allow it.
