Southbury Student Awarded $25K In STEM Scholarship From Arredondo Foundation

SOUTHBURY, CT — Three Immaculate High School seniors have been awarded a combined $85,000 in STEM scholarships from the Angeles T. Arredondo Foundation in Stamford. Among them was Alina Budzynski of Southbury, who was awarded $25,000.

The foundation applies the prize money directly to the colleges or universities the students will attend.

To qualify, students must complete at least six advanced STEM courses during their first three years of high school, with the highest course averages determining the winners.

Immaculate High School, which emphasizes science, technology, engineering and math both in the classroom and through extracurricular programs, has gained recognition for its student teams in national competitions. Its “Brave Engineers” team has taken first place in the Real World Design Challenge state contest for seven consecutive years and earned second place in the national and international competition.

Founded in 1981, the Arredondo Foundation supports merit-based tuition assistance, with a focus on advancing STEM education in schools to address the national shortage of graduates in those fields.

Immaculate High School, a Catholic college-preparatory school in Danbury, serves students from across Connecticut and New York. It was recently ranked the top Catholic co-educational day school in Connecticut by Niche.
