Stephen Sondheim's Country Estate Has Sold In Roxbury

The late composer Stephen Sondheim's nine-acre Roxbury estate has sold, for the asking price.

ROXBURY, CT – Stephen Sondheim's nine-acre Roxbury estate has sold for $3,250,000, the full asking price, according to agent Klemm Real Estate.

The Broadway icon's 11-room, 3,698 square foot home on just over 9 acres was built in 1792, and was on the market for $3,250,000.

The listing touted the home's "timeless blend of history, elegance, and modern comfort, paneled library, and "dramatic" living room with its cathedral ceiling.

The famed Broadway composer and lyricist, whose work included "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," "Company," "A Little Night Music," and "Company," died in 2021 at age 91. The estate in Roxbury had been his country retreat since he purchased it in 1983. He was the recipient of eight Tony Awards, eight Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, an Olivier Award, and the Pulitzer Prize.
