Amy Powers of Southington Awarded Scholarship for HR Certification

Amy Powers of Southington was recently selected as the recipient of the Andy Thiede HR Certification Scholarship. The scholarship was created by Andrea (Andy) Thiede, an HR professional from Berlin, Connecticut, with a passion for helping others in the HR field. Amy is a Human Resources Manager with Superior Products Distributors, Inc. in Southington.

“In addition to working her full time job, Amy is engaged in extra activities to advance herself and our HR profession. Last month, Amy was one of 13 HR professionals who successfully completed the Emerging HR Professionals Career Series, a six-week program from the HRACC (Human Resources Association of Central Connecticut),” said Andy Thiede.

Amy was selected for the HR Certification Scholarship based on her ambition to excel in her HR career and her passion for being a resource to her colleagues. She will use the scholarship to test for the SHRM-CP (Society for Human Resource Management-Certified Professional) designation.

“I stumbled into HR by accident, but I am staying in the profession on purpose. I enjoy the opportunity to lead change, solve problems, and be a part of the solution,” said Amy. She added, “this scholarship will allow me to earn my SHRM-CP certification, which will enhance my knowledge of best practices and provide the expertise needed to implement effective HR strategies. The certification will also strengthen my ability to navigate complex workplace challenges, drive positive organizational change, and contribute to a supportive and inclusive work environment.”

ABOUT THE ANDY THIEDE HR CERTIFICATION SCHOLARSHIP
The Andy Thiede HR Certification Scholarship was established in 2016 by Andrea (Andy) Thiede, an HR professional from Berlin, Connecticut, who is committed to giving back to the profession. The scholarship helps offset the expense of obtaining an advanced HR certification.

To date, Andy has awarded 20 HR certification scholarships, totaling over $10,000.

Andy is an HR Consultant with KardasLarson LLC, and HRACC’s (Human Resource Association of Central Connecticut) Director of Chapter Operations. In addition to these roles, she serves as Treasurer of the SMA of Southern New England SHRM chapter, Treasurer for the Tri-State SHRM Conference, and Chapter Administrator for the SHRM Western CT chapter.
