Bristol Urging Residents To Be Prepared For Severe Cold Weather

The city is urging residents to be prepared Tuesday into Wednesday as temperatures are forecasted to dip into the single digits and teens.

Gov. Ned Lamont said brutally frigid temperatures are expected to impact Connecticut over the next couple of days. He directed the state’s severe cold weather protocol to be in effect through noon on Wednesday.

This is the first time the protocol has been enacted during the 2021-2022 winter season.

If the local shelters are at capacity, those in need should dial 2-1-1, press option 5 and a contact a specialist who will direct them to other shelters and/or warming stations in surrounding communities.

The following are warming shelter locations and times for those in need here in Bristol:

*Bristol Public Library, 5 High St., Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

*Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Ave., Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

*Community Health Center, 395 North Main St., Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

*Salvation Army, 19 Stearns St., Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

*Agape House, 43 School St., Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon

*Brian’s Angels, 99 Summer St., Tuesday to Sunday, 1p.m. to 5 p.m.

The city encourages residents to check on neighbors and the elderly. It is also against the law to leave animals outside in extreme weather conditions.
