Children To Learn How To Handle Animals At Southington Library Event

Registration for the program starts July 18 for the July 25 event, which will delve into how children can safely interact with pets.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Public Library is seeking participants for a unique program for young children that will teach them how to safely interact with animals.

Called "Paws and Pages," the event is on Tuesday, July 25, and registration for it begins Tuesday, July 18.

It will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Southington Public Library, 255 Main St.

The program is for children aged 3 to 6 and it will feature a book with an animal theme, along with an important discussion on how children should behave around animals to ensure everyone's safety.

Such issues as behavior around dogs and cats and how to safely pet animals are on the list of things expected to be discusses.

Children will then demonstrate what they learned on stuffed animals (no live animals).

Space is limited and registration is required.

According to the library, registration must be done in person at the library prior to the event and small, monetary deposit is required.

If someone attends the event, that deposit is refunded, but if someone registers and, then, doesn't show up, they lose their deposit, according to the library.

The deposit is $3 per child and $5 for two or more children.
