Crews Extinguish Large Barn Fire In Southington

Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to a large wooded area nearby, according to officials.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Crews extinguished a barn fire Wednesday night in Southington, according to officials.

The Southington Fire Department responded around 6:30 p.m. to reports of a brush fire in the 1400 block of East Street.

The first-arriving unit found a 20 x 30-foot barn fully involved in flames about 300 feet off the road, according to officials.

Officials said the property owner confirmed that the barn was unoccupied by both animals and humans at the time of the fire.

The incident was upgraded to a building fire response, prompting the addition of mutual aid resources from neighboring towns, including Meriden, Bristol, Plainville, Cheshire, and New Britain, according to officials.

“Firefighters quickly deployed attack lines, rapidly suppressing the bulk of the fire and successfully preventing it from spreading to a large wooded area near Hunting Hill Drive,” officials wrote in a news release. “Mutual aid units initially responding to the scene were redirected to provide station coverage for the Southington Fire Department during the operation.

“Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all responding personnel, the fire was brought under control with no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Southington Fire Marshal’s Office.
