Southington Opens Warming Centers For Latest Cold Snap
The state has implemented cold-weather protocols this week, prompting municipalities to do the same.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — With the state implementing extreme cold weather protocols this week, Southington officials announced the same, authorizing warming centers in town through the weekend.
State protocols went into effect Monday, Dec. 29, at 6 p.m. and they continue to noon on Sunday, Jan. 4.
In response, Southington officials announced the implementation of local cold-weather protocols.

"The purpose of Connecticut's severe cold weather protocol is to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the severe cold conditions, which could be life-threatening if exposed to the elements for extended periods of time," wrote Southington Town Manager Alex Ricciardone in an announcement.
The following warming centers were announced on Monday:

• Southington Public Library, 255 Main St.: Tuesday, Dec. 30, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday, Dec. 31, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; CLOSED Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026; Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, Jan. 3, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Calendar House Community/Senior Center, 388 Pleasant St.: Tuesday, Dec. 30, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Dec. 31, from 8"30 a.m. to noon; CLOSED, Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026; Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Southington Police Department Lobby, 69 Lazy Lane: All hours when the library and Calendar House are closed.
