Extreme Heat Alert Issued In Southington, Shelters To Open
With a major heat wave expected to strike Sunday, June 22, Southington officials have announced its extreme heat protocols.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local officials have enacted severe hot weather protocols, which start Sunday, June 22, as the area is expected to experience its first major heat wave of 2025.
According to the Town of Southington, those protocols start Sunday, June 22, at noon and continue to Wednesday, June 25, at 8 p.m.
Temperatures are expected to be well into the 90s and, even, approach 100 some days, with heat indexes making it feel much hotter.

"The purpose of Connecticut's severe hot weather protocol is to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the severe hot conditions, which could be life-threatening if exposed to the elements for an extended period of time," wrote Southington Emergency Management Director William Palmieri in a town memo.
As part of the protocols, Southington is opening up cooling centers in town for those who need them. They are:

• Southington Public Library, 255 Main St., Southington: Monday, June 23, to Wednesday, June 25, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Calendar House Senior Center, 388 Pleasant St., Southington: Monday, June 23, to Wednesday, June 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Southington Police Department lobby, 69 Lazy Lane, Southington: Starting Sunday, June 22, at noon and continuing on Monday, June 23, to Wednesday, June 25, when the Calendar House and library are not open.
