NEW BRITAIN/SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington High School Blue Knights' quest for a fourth state title was badly derailed Saturday night by Greenwich High School, 45-7.

As a result, the Blue Knights came up short in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) Class LL state championship game, which was played Saturday night at a frigid Veterans Memorial Stadium in New Britain.

The heavily-favored GHS was, simply, too much.

Still, Southington's championship game appearance marked a stunning turnaround in a season that once had them at 2-3 following a blowout loss to New Britain High School on Oct. 10.

Since then, however, SHS hadn't lost a game, and they stood 9-3, including two postseason wins.
