According to animal control, the incident happened at about 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the West Hartford Dog Park, 100 Mayflower St.

That's when somebody drove to the dog park, opened the door, and let the dog out in the freezing temperatures, wrote animal control in a Facebook post.

When the dog exited the vehicle, animal control said, the vehicle then sped away.

The animal control department described the dog as being a "really good boy" and even wrote a touching description of what happened from the dog's point of view.

This story does have some good news, as "some kind humans" noticed the situation and stayed with the abandoned dog.

"They gently helped me into the small dog area and made sure I was safe until animal control arrived," wrote animal control from the dog's point of view. "Because of them, I wasn't alone."

Now, animal control is investigating what happened, and it vows to find out who abandoned the dog and why it happened.

"The Town of West Hartford maintains zero tolerance for this behavior, " wrote animal control. "Individuals responsible will be identified and subject to all applicable legal consequences."

Anyone with more information on the case and/or who recognizes the dog is asked to contact West Hartford Animal Control at 860-570-8818. Tips may be provided by phone or, if preferred, by email at animalcontrol@westhartfordct.gov.
