Help Available For Southington Residents Who Will Lose SNAP Benefits: Town
Southington's town manager posted important information for the many low-income residents about to lose federal food assistance.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — Millions of low-income people (including children and the elderly) will lose their federal SNAP food assistance benefits Saturday due to the government shutdown.
Southington officials on Wednesday released information about what folks in need locally can do to get the help they need.
"Southington Community Services wants everyone to know about all of the help available to Southington residents," wrote Southington Town Manager Alex Ricciardone on his Facebook page.

"Southington Community Services, along with Bread for Life and The Giving Back Program, are confident they have more than enough resources to take care of anyone who needs help due to a loss in SNAP."

• Southington Community Services; 91 Norton St, Plantsville; 860-628-3761; Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (extended hours available)
• Bread For Life, 31 Vermont Ave., Southington, 860-276-8389; Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The organization offers help for those suffering from food insecurity.
• The Giving Back Program, 1445 West St., Southington, 860-276-0400, offers a Foodshare truck (free groceries) every 2nd and 4th Saturday and every other Tuesday, 8 to 9:30 a.m. (includes fresh produce, dairy, and meat)
•WIC – Women, Infants & Children; 860-585-3280 (Bristol Hospital WIC – returning to Southington soon). Offers formula and healthy foods via the eWIC card. For pregnant/postpartum moms, infants, and kids up to age 5.
