Major Road Renovation Project On Southington's Election Day Ballot

In addition to state and national races, a $15 million bonding package for road/bridge renovations in tow will be decided on Nov. 5.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — In addition to helping decide the future of the nation during Tuesday's presidential election, Southington voters will also determine the future of its roads/bridges.

The Town of Southington has a bond question on the Nov. 5 ballot seeking to borrow $15 million as part of a major road/bridge renovation project.

While not nearly as controversial as "Project 2025," Southington's "Road Project 2025" is expected to begin sometime next year and it is part of the town's regular road maintenance program.

Currently, town staff and officials are analyzing what specific roads will get the much-needed makeovers.

"While we are far from perfect, expect a transparent road selection process to begin early 2025 through the town council public works committee," wrote Ricciardone.

"A draft list of roads slated for 2025 work will be released by Feb. 1, 2025, for public comment through the public works committee.

"Town staff is working hard over the next few months to put in place the best paving strategy for 2025 and beyond."

Ricciardone said the town will continue to update taxpayers about the road project.

"$15 million is a lot of money. A lot of money," he wrote.

"Southington taxpayers deserve to know where the money they are voting to approve/reject will possibly be going."

As part of that, the town has created a comprehensive information page about the bond question, which appears on the far right side of the ballot.
