Memorial Day In Southington: Parade, Ceremonies Slated For Monday
Memorial Day is a solemn mix of remembering U.S. soldiers killed in the line of duty and enjoying the unofficial start of the summer season.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — The unofficial start of summer kicks off in Southington this weekend with a mix of seasonal fun and solemn remembrances of Memorial Day Weekend's true meaning.
All town offices and schools are closed for the day on Monday, May 26, with Southington hosting its annual Memorial Day Parade that day.
Southington's Memorial Day Parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. at Derynoski Elementary School on Eden Avenue, with parade participants forming between 9:45 and 10:15 a.m. at the lower level parking lot.

From there, the parade, organized by Southington American Legion Kiltonic Post 72, goes west onto Liberty Street, then onto Center Street, the Southington Town Green, Apple Way, and then ending on Columbus Avenue.
Shortly after the parade, there will be a special Memorial Day ceremony in front of the American Legion Home at 64 Main St., Southington.

"We will come together to honor the memory of our fallen heroes and show our deep gratitude for their service and sacrifice," wrote the town in an announcement.
Before the parade, the American Legion will host 12 separate, but short, memorial services at Southington cemeteries to honor fallen veterans.
The first ceremony starts at 7:30 a.m. and the final one is at 8:45 a.m.
