New Contracts, Pay Hikes OK'd For Southington's Top School Officials
At its most recent meeting, the school board approved new, three-year deals for its school chief and the assistant school chief.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local school officials late last month secured Southington's top two appointed school system leaders, inking both to new three-year contracts.
In separate votes at its last meeting on June 26, the Southington Board of Education unanimously approved new, three-year pacts for Southington Superintendent of Schools Steven Madancy and Southington Assistant Superintendent of Schools Frank M. Pepe.
Madancy's deal covers the 2025-26, 2026-27, and 2027-28 school years, upping his salary by 3 percent to $218,040.

If no agreement is reached between the board and Madancy, his base pay will remain as is.
Other aspects of Madancy's deal include a $380,000 group term life insurance policy; $6,000 per year for use of the superintendent's vehicle for school endeavors; as well as 30 vacation days, 20 sick days, and three personal days per year.
The board of education also unanimously approved a new, three-year contract for Pepe for the same years.
According to the assistant school chief's contract, Pepe's base salary is $216,009 per year with an additional $5,000 per year set aside for an annuity.
The votes on both contracts came after a 56-minute closed session by school board members.
Southington's school board recording for June 26 ends when the board went into executive session, so the actual votes were not captured on video.
According to the school board's meeting minutes, the council simply approved two motions, with no board comments indicated in the minutes.
