Southington PZC OK's New Medical Building
The planning and zoning commission last week approved a special permit for the new medical facility.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — A prominent central Connecticut medical group is expanding further into Southington after the town's zoning board last week approved plans for a new site.
The Southington Planning and Zoning Commission Oct. 4 unanimously approved a special permit for Starling Physicians to build a 24,344-square-foot building on West Street.
Plans call for Starling Physicians to relocate its Plainville office to Southington, where a Starling facility currently exists on Main Street.

The 1908 West St. site is zoned industrial and it would include 120 parking spaces at the parcel, which is 2.36 acres.
Starling operates medical practices and facilities in more than 20 towns in central Connecticut.

According to Farmington-based architect Charlie Nyberg, who is representing Starling, plans tentatively call for Starling to move its Plainville offices to the new site in Southington.
"Southington was a very much-desired location for them," Nyberg told the PZC last week. "You guys are getting the benefits of Starling coming to Southington."
Currently, Starling has cardiology; ear, nose, throat and balance; internal medicine; urology; and surgical offices on Main Street in Southington.
The Plainville office pegged for relocation to West Street contains internal medicine; OB/GYN; and pediatric and adolescent medicine offices.
The new medical facility would be connected to municipal water and sewers and would be located on a section of road experts said would easily accommodate any increased traffic.
PZC members were pleased to have a new medical office coming to town, as it represents the kind of economic development many municipalities seek in improving the tax base.
"I'm happy to see that this is moving in here," said Southington PZC Alternate Caleb Cowles, who was seated for an absent regular member. "I think this is a great win."
Added Southington PZC Chairman Robert Hammersley, "thank you for bringing your business here."
