Obituary: Richard Scott Tiner

Richard Scott Tiner passed away Jan. 20.

WESTON, WV — Richard Scott Tiner, 66 of Weston, WV, passed away peacefully at Stonewall Jackson Hospital ICU on Thursday, January 20, 2022.

“Rick” was born in Meriden, CT, on September 26, 1955, to his beloved mother, the late Janet Malozeski Tiner of Meriden and the late Robert Earl Tiner of Beaumont, TX. Raised in Meriden, CT, he attended local schools, working until moving to South West Florida, where he lived for many years. In 2020, he moved to Weston, WV, by way of a short stay in South Carolina until his recent passing. An entrepreneur, artist, perfectionist, and business owner with a strong work ethic, he retired in 2020 from the Faux finishing industry. He was intelligent, passionate, talented, creative, loyal and kind regardless of his tough exterior. A devastating motorcycle crash in 2016 robbed him of the joy of riding and good health. There was peace in the cool hills of West Virginia where he found joy and purpose at the Museum of American Glass, collecting, restoring and donating antique oil lamps. He was an avid gardener and “animal whisperer”. He called himself a Lone Wolf, but was reminded that he was never alone, loved by family and friends.

Left with cherished memories are his sisters: Virginia Perry and husband, Jim, of TX, Maryann Comtois and husband, Gerry, of CT, and Joan Del Rio of MN; and several nieces and nephews, cousins and a lifetime of special friends, including Terry Hefner with whom Rick was very close in Weston, caring for Rick in his final days.
