Road Work Impacting Southington Traffic On Busy Roadway

Detours and lane closures are expected all day on Wednesday, July 23, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A busy roadway in Southington will be heavily impacted by road construction Wednesday, July 23, with lane closures and detours expected.

Southington police said Mount Vernon Road will be detoured due to road construction.

Mount Vernon Road will be reduced to one lane of travel between West Center Street Extension and Jude Lane between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., police said.

Between the hours of 7 a.m. and noon, traffic will be allowed to travel northbound on Mount Vernon Road.

Southbound traffic will be detoured east onto Jude Lane, south onto West Street, west onto West Center Street, back to Mount Vernon Road.

This detour will be reversed between noon and 7 p.m., police said.

Southbound traffic will be allowed to travel on Mount Vernon Road, and northbound traffic will be detoured east on West Center Street, north on West Street, west on Jude Lane back to Mount Vernon Road.

"We understand that there may be some inconvenience. However, due to the length of the road construction, it is necessary to ensure the safety of the workers, as well as motorists," police wrote Tuesday. "The Southington Police Department thanks you for your understanding and cooperation."
