Seven Super Nursing Aides For Seniors Honored In Southington

The Hartford HealthCare Senior Services colleagues earned statewide recognition from LeadingAge Connecticut for excellence in senior care.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Nursing aides are the unsung heroes of health care, working hard to make sure basic medical needs are met for patients.

Late last month, seven Hartford HealthCare Senior Services colleagues earned statewide recognition from LeadingAge Connecticut for excellence in senior care.

The magnificent seven, representing facilities in Southington, Newington and New Britain, were honored at a special luncheon at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington March 29.

There, they were presented with "Caring Hands Awards" for the hard work and dedication.

Certified nursing aids (CNAs) recognized from Hartford HealthCare Senior Services were:

• Shondel Edwards, CNA- Cedar Mountain Commons, 3 John H. Stewart Drive, Newington.

• Marlene Gomez, CNA - Jefferson House, 1 John H. Stewart Drive, Newington.

• Katherine Marovich, CNA - Mulberry Gardens of Southington, 58 Mulberry St., Plantsville.

• Katrina Purvis, CNA- The Orchards at Southington, 34 Hobart St., Southington.

• Alicia Doruch CNA- Southington Care Center, 45 Meriden Ave., Southington.

• Johanna Baker-Bonner, CNA - Arbor Rose at Jerome Home, 975 Corbin Ave., New Britain.

• Maria Morale, CNA- Arbor Rose at Jerome Home, 975 Corbin Ave., New Britain.

LeadingAge Connecticut represents the state’s nonprofit senior living communities.

The awards, are presented annually to nursing aides for their contributions to senior care in a nursing home, home health care agency or assisted living community

“These seven caregivers were nominated by their communities for their outstanding commitment to caring for our seniors. On behalf of Hartford HealthCare Senior Services, we are so proud of each of them and enjoyed celebrating with them at this wonderful event,” said Lori Toombs, regional director of assisted living, Hartford HealthCare Senior Services.

“We are so incredibly honored to have such amazing nursing aides working in our senior communities and providing residents with the attentive, kind and loving care they so richly deserve,” added Mag Morelli, president at LeadingAge Connecticut.

“These jobs truly are a calling and a passion, which is why it is our privilege to recognize those aides who have truly distinguished themselves. The need for quality senior care has never been greater, and these wonderful people are the lifeblood of our member organizations.”
