Snowstorm Prompts Southington Parking Ban

Southington police said the ban takes effect Saturday at noon and continues to mid-day on Monday.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police Friday announced that a 48-hour parking ban will go into effect this weekend into Monday due to the impending snowstorm.

Several inches of snow are expected Saturday night into Sunday and that will require clear roads for snow removal operations.

As a result, the Southington Police Department said Friday that a parking ban will be in effect from noon Saturday, Jan. 6, to noon Monday, Jan. 8.

Southington's winter parking ban runs from Nov. 15 through April 15 and is activated whenever winter weather is expected.

Violators of the ban, as well as many other winter-related ordinances in Southington, could cost scofflaws.

Fines range from $120 for not clearing snow from vehicles while driving to $10 for parking on a street during a parking ban (and much, much more once you're vehicle is towed).

Other fines can be implemented for throwing snow onto the street or sidewalk and failing to clear public sidewalks in front of your property, police said.
