Southington Activates Heat Protocols, Opens Cooling Centers
Extreme heat and humidity this week are prompting towns/cities to open cooling centers and abide by state hot weather protocols.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — With extreme hot weather in the forecast this week, the town has designated three Southington sites to be cooling centers Monday through Thursday, Aug. 11-14.
Southington Emergency Management Director William Palmieri said the municipal decision is in line with Gov. Ned Lamont activating statewide severe hot weather protocols.
"The purpose of Connecticut's severe hot weather protocol is to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the severe hot conditions, which could be life-threatening if exposed to the elements for extended periods of time," wrote Palmieri.
