Southington Activates Local Cooling Centers
High heat and humidity have prompted the Town of Southington this week to activate cooling centers for folks seeking relief.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — With extreme hot weather in the forecast for most of this week, the town has designated three Southington sites to be cooling centers.
Southington Town Manager Alex Ricciardone said the municipal decision is in line with Gov. Ned Lamont activating statewide severe hot weather protocols this week.
"The purpose of Connecticut's severe hot weather protocol is to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the severe hot conditions, which could be life-threatening if exposed to the elements for extended periods of time," wrote Riccardone to the community.
