Southington Activates Severe Cold Weather Protocols
The town is opening warming centers for the first major cold snap of the season.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — The first major cold snap of the season is expected to hit tonight, with the Town of Southington announcing the implementation of cold-weather protocols.
Extreme cold weather, with temperatures averaging 10 to 20 degrees below normal with wind chills close to zero at times, is forecasted beginning Thursday, Dec. 4, through Tuesday, Dec. 9.
Gov. Ned Lamont on Thursday put the state under cold-weather protocols.

As a result, Southington is opening up a warming center for folks to go to if they have no other options.

• Southington Public Library, 255 Main St.: Friday, Dec. 5, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 6, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Monday, Dec. 8, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 9 a.m. to noon.
• Calendar House Community/Senior Center, 388 Pleasant St.: Friday, Dec. 5, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Monday, Dec. 8, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
• Southington Police Department Lobby, 69 Lazy Lane: All hours when the library and Calendar House are closed.
