Southington Animal Control Needs Donations
Newly created support nonprofit collecting aid to help animals in shelter, pet owners.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — A push is on to collect donations for the Southington Animal Control department, with a support organization recently qualifying to receive donations.
Ann Marie Conaty, a representative of the Friends of Southington Animal Control, went before the Southington Town Council July 11 to update the board on the group's developments.
She said they just received 501 (c) (3) status that allows them to accept donations as a nonprofit entity.

The town's animal control department has an aggressive list of volunteers that not only helps animals that may end up in the dog pound, but aids people in finding their lost pets.
It has a well-organized Facebook page and town page on Southington's municipal website.

Volunteers also help out pet owners who may be struggling.
According to July 11 council meeting minutes, Conaty said "she would hate to see pet owners have to surrender their pets because they cannot afford them."
For any donations, the checks can be made payable to "Friends of Animal Control."
Councilman Paul Chaplinsky asked for a flyer to be put up around town to promote the effort.
