Want To Save A Life? Donate Blood In Southington
Blood donors are being sought for the Southington event, which is on Wednesday.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — Folks are being asked to donate blood in honor of a local resident whose been battling a rare blood disorder most of his life, one requiring transfusions every two weeks.
The United Way of Southington is hosting a special blood drive Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the First Congregational Church of Southington, 37 Main St., Southington.
It will take place from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the church.

The blood drive is being held in honor of Lucas Prado, a young Southington resident who has "Cooley's Anemia," a disorder that has him requiring blood transfusions every two weeks.
According to the American Red Cross, which is conducting the blood drive, Prado's disorder means he can't make sufficient health red blood cells on its own, which is why he, essentially, needs new blood every two weeks.

In addition to saving lives and helping folks like Prado, those donating Wednesday will get a $10 Amazon gift card emailed to them and they'll be entered to win a trip for two to Florida.
