Southington Enters Hot-Weather Protocols
The town is opening up multiple cooling centers for a possible heat wave this week.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — Mother Nature's insistence summer is still in full swing after Labor Day has prompted the Town of Southington to implement hot-weather protocols, opening up cooling centers in the process.
According to an announcement from Southington Town Manager Mark J. Sciota Tuesday, Southington is opening cooling centers starting at noon Tuesday, Sept. 5, and lasting through Thursday night, Sept. 7, at 8 p.m.
Temperatures are expected to venture into the 90s this week after a very temperate August, with heat indexes this week expected to make it feel even hotter.

According to Sciota, the following locations in Southington will be open for folks to cool off:
• Southington Calendar House (senior center), 388 Pleasant St., Southington, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

• Southington Public Library, 255 Main St., Southington, Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Southington Police Department, 69 Lazy Lane, Southington, all other days/hours when the library and Calendar House are not open.
