Southington FD Hosting Massive Local Food Drive

Proceeds of the campaign, which is held throughout October and November, benefit Southington Community Services.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — With the end-of-the-year holidays fast approaching, the Southington Fire Department is going all out to help those in need.

The Southington FD is hosting an ongoing food drive this month and next month (October/November) to collect non-perishable food for Southington Community Services.

The SFD has four drop-off locations in town where folks can donate food:

• 310 N. Main St., Southington FD HQ

• 72 River St., Southington Station No. 5

• 255 Main St., Southington Public Library

• 887 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike (Plantsville), Tops Marketplace

All donations go to Southington Community Services, which helps residents in need who may be suffering from economic problems and food insecurity.

Some of the items especially needed are: canned fruit, canned vegetables, ravioli, spaghetti and meatballs, shelf milk, cereal, baked goods, and children's snacks.

The food drive, however, is unable to accept any items that require refrigeration.
