Southington Issues Parking Ban Due To Tuesday Snowstorm

Southington officials Monday have announced a townwide parking ban, as wells as multiple reminders on snow removal regulations.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington officials Monday evening announced that a parking ban will go into effect due to the expected snowstorm on Tuesday.

The ban goes into effect at midnight Tuesday morning (12 a.m.) and continues until 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Southington Police Department.

The storm comes amid a relatively mild and snow-free winter. Initially, anywhere from 6-12 inches of snow was expected to hit the state Tuesday.

But a new storm track has decreased those figures, with WFSB Channel 3 predicting inch counts in the 2-4 inch range. Those counts, however, slowly increased and, now, 6-10 inches is predicted.

The flakes are expected to start flying Tuesday morning and stop sometime Tuesday afternoon.

Police also reminded residents of the various ordinances that deal with snow removal and storm cleanup.

Among them are mandates to keep vehicles off the streets during parking bans and requirements to clean off sidewalks and avoid putting snow back onto the streets when clearing sidewalks/driveways.

Failing to abide by winter storm ordinances (see below) can result in potentially costly fines, police said.
