Southington To Open Warming Centers During Cold Snap

Three municipal sites can be temporary refuges against the bitter cold starting Saturday through early next week.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local officials Friday announced the implementation of cold-weather protocols and the opening of town-designated warming centers to keep folks warm.

Southington's protocols coincide with the state, which has activated a cold-weather response from noon on Saturday, Dec. 21, to noon on Tuesday, Dec. 24.

In Southington, two warming centers will be utilized during that time frame:

• Southington Public Library, 255 Main St., Southington: Saturday, Dec. 21, from noon to 5 p.m.; Monday, Dec. 23, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Tuesday, Dec. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon.

• Calendar House Senior Center, 388 Pleasant St., Southington: Monday, Dec. 23, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

The Southington Police Department, 60 Lazy Lane, can be an emergency warming center when the two designated sites are closed.
