Southington Opens Cooling Centers
The town Tuesday morning announced it is opening cooling centers at the senior center and library through Friday.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Town of Southington announced Tuesday morning it is activating its cooling centers with another heat wave expected this week.
According to a memo by Southington Emergency Management Director Jay Baker, there are two locations for folks to chill out in the mid-summer heat:
• The Calendar House Senior Center, 388 Pleasant St., will be designated cooling center Tuesday through Friday, with the site opened from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

In announcing the town cooling center plans, Baker cited Gov. Ned Lamont approving the activation of extreme heat protocols from 8 a.m. Tuesday until 8 p.m. Friday.
"The reason for the activation is the extreme heat affecting the state starting Tuesday morning, continuing into Friday," Baker wrote.
Like they did for a few days in mid-July, temperatures are expected to exceed well past 90 degrees in coming days, with humidity levels making it feel closer to 100.
