Southington Extends Cold-Weather Protocols: UPDATE

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont has extended the state's cold-weather protocols through Friday, Jan. 10.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — This week's high winds and cold temperatures have put the state on cold-weather protocols, with Southington officials saying the town is doing likewise.

As a result, the Town of Southington will have "warming centers" available to those who need them through Friday, Jan. 10.

They were activated on Monday, with the closing date extended by a day per the governor's orders on Wednesday.

• The Southington Public Library, 255 Main St., Southington

• Calendar House/Senior Center, 388 Pleasant St., Southington.

• Southington Police Department Lobby, 69 Lazy Lane, Southington, after hours when the library and Calendar House are closed.

"The purpose of Connecticut's severe cold weather protocol is to ensure that the vulnerable populations receive protection from the severe cold conditions, which could be life threatening if exposed to the elements for an extended period of time," wrote Southington Emergency Management Director William Palmieri in an announcement.
