SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police recently wrapped up a major highlight on their holiday calendar, helping out local youths in the process.

The Southington Police Department hosted its annual "Shop With a Cop" event at the local Walmart earlier this week.

"Thanks to the incredible generosity of Springfield Together, Inc. and Walmart of Southington, 20 local children were able to enjoy a memorable shopping experience with our officers," wrote the SPD on Tuesday.

Police said while their primary jobs are still public safety and catching the bad guys, events like "Shop With a Cop" show there's more to police work than enforcement.

"Events like this remind us what community is all about. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Shop With a Cop a warm and joyful success," wrote the SPD.
