Southington PD Teams Up With Meriden Humane Society To Aid Furry Pals
Southington police kicked off its animal aid campaign on 'Giving Tuesday.'

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Police Department is taking time out from catching the bad guys by lending a helping paw for an organization dedicated to helping our furry friends.
On Tuesday, the SPD announced, for "Giving Tuesday," the department was partnering with the Meriden Human Society to raise funds and items to help in the organization's animal rights cause.
"While centrally located in Meriden, they aid surrounding towns with animal surrenders; animals abandoned, abused and neglected; feral cat populations; animal hoarding situations; animal medical conditions; etc.," wrote the SPD.

Several items are being sought by the Meriden Human Society, with the SPD actually setting up a collection box inside the public accessway to police headquarters at the main desk.
Among requests are dog food, cat food, treats and other pet care supplies.

In addition, the MHS is seeking gift cards for Amazon, Staples, Home Depot, Lowe's and Stop & Shop, so the organization can purchase items it needs to help in the cause of animal care.
Police said gift card donations should be left with a dispatcher in the main office.
The SPD posted a complete list of what is being sought on its Facebook page.
"MHS works off of donations from our communities and people like you," wrote the SPD. "Let's give back and help supply MHS with the much-needed items listed on the flyer so they can keep their doors open to care for our amazing, furry friends that need help."
